Weekly Letter to the Community, Week 29 of Distance Learning
Posted 3/14/21

Good Afternoon and Happy Sunday Cabrillo Families,

I received my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday so I am taking it easy today. Like I mentioned in my March Newsletter Superintendent Cammack has made it possible for the 4400 FUSD employees to be vaccinated before the end of March. A truly remarkable feat.

Career Fair

Mrs. Amezcua will be hosting a virtual Career Week in April. This is an opportunity for our students to learn fun and interesting facts about different career choices. For now, we are looking for Cabrillo Community members interested in sharing what they do. Volunteers would submit a 2-3 minute video. Please reach out to Mrs. Amezcua if you have any questions. Her email address is and phone number is 510-936-2580.

Yearbook Portraits

Wow! The number of portraits submitted for the yearbook increased by 140% last week. We zoomed from 78 portraits to 211. But we still have another 170 to go. I want to see your child’s portrait in the yearbook rather than a placeholder image “No Photo Submitted.” Call the office if you need help.

Introducing Ms. Haley Gordon

Cabrillo is very fortunate to have so many dedicated new teachers. This week I would like to introduce you to 4th grade teacher Ms. Gordon. She has some great tips to share with you.

Ordering a Yearbook

Yearbooks can be purchased online by going to the Cabrillo website or clicking the following link Ordering a Yearbook. The yearbook can only be purchased online due to the pandemic.

Yearbook Photo Uploader

We need more photos of 5th and 6th grade students. Click the Upload Yearbook Photos found under my weekly video. Use your student’s Google account for verification. Click the Add File uploader then select the image from your phone.

Library Books

Our system of checking out library books to students ends this week with first grade on Monday. Our next anticipated distribution will start at the end of the month. Remember to return your student’s library book at the next materials pick up.

Materials Distribution This Week

Contactless delivery this week: TK on Tuesday and Kindergarten on Thursday. The cafeteria doors are open from 6:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Stay Safe,

David Thornley
