Weekly Letter to the Community, Week 27 of Distance Learning
Posted 2/27/21

Good Morning and Happy Sunday Cabrillo Families,
Yearbook Portraits
It is now time to turn our attention to the portrait pages of the Cabrillo Yearbook. Traditionally we have Dorian on campus taking student photographs but these are not traditional times. Each class will have a two-page spread of portrait images families provide. Mrs. Diaz-Centeno’s Yearbook Portrait Guidelines (3:36) video found on the front page of the Cabrillo Website provides excellent tips for taking your student’s portrait with a cell phone. We have some very basic guidelines we need all Cabrillo Families to follow:

  • The photo must show head and shoulders
  • The photo must have the full head facing forward
  • Only the student must be in the frame
  • Use a solid color background
  • Lighting should be in the front of the face
  • No filters, special effects, stickers, etc. It will not be included in the yearbook.
  • No hats, sunglasses, hoodies, or anything that obstructs the face. It will not be included in the yearbook.

Here is how you can help. Parents will use the linked form Add Your Student’s Yearbook Portrait to add their student’s photo. Let me show you how it is done.

Library Books
Our system of checking out library books to students is working very well! Mrs. Hamblin prepared books for 3rd and 2nd graders last week and will do so for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade this week. To receive a yearbook, a student must place books on hold for Mrs. Hamblin to select. Bring back the books at the next materials pick up.

Ordering a Yearbook
This is the last day to purchase yearbooks for $15.00. Starting March 1, the price will rise to $17.00. The yearbook can be purchased online by going to the Cabrillo website or clicking the following link Ordering a Yearbook. The yearbook can only be purchased online due to the pandemic.

Yearbook Photo Uploader
I love seeing the pictures you submit to the yearbook photo uploader on the school website. Click the Upload Yearbook Photos found under my weekly video. Use your student’s Google account for verification. Click the Add File uploader then select the image from your phone.

Materials Distribution This Week
Contactless delivery this week: TK on Tuesday, 4th Grade on Wednesday, and Kindergarten, 5th, and 6th Grade on Thursday. The cafeteria doors are open from 6:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Stay Safe,
David Thornley
